The Academy Of Indian Music, started by Ustad Hamid Hossain has been a leader in bringing people of South Asian cultures and westerners together. A renowned music teacher of Indian music, Ustad Hossain started the first Annual Indian Music and Dance Competition in 1983 with the support of the music department of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Since then, the competition has went on to become one of the longest running and only competition of Indian music of its kind outside of India.
