About This Album

Released February 2, 2010

Shades of Santoor features santoor maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya in a full performance of Raga Rageshree, with Enayet Hossain on tabla, followed by two live pieces.

Rageshree is a night raga of gentle, romantic character. The santoor, a hammered dulcimer from Kashmir, brings it to life with shimmering, bell-like tones: an alap, jor and jhala opens the album, followed by gats in vilambit and drut teental. Two live recordings complete the album, Raga Pahadi, a light melody from the hill regions, and Raga Kirwani, borrowed from South Indian Carnatic music, both with Saleiman Azizi on tabla.

Tarun Bhattacharya has performed around the world, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Kremlin, and is one of the most celebrated santoor players of his time. Released by Aimrec in 2010 (AIMCDIM370).
