About This Album
Released July 25, 2015
The Mystical Sitar presents Shakir Khan of the Etawah gharana, with Enayet Hossain on tabla, in four evening and night ragas, each heard as an alap followed by a gat.
The journey begins with Raga Jog, with its bittersweet colour, played in rupak, then moves through Rageshree, Gawati and Shyam Kalyan, each in teental. The format of four complete but compact ragas makes this an inviting album for listeners discovering how different ragas create different moods.
Shakir Khan is the son and disciple of sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and the eighth generation of a family devoted to sitar. The Mystical Sitar is his second album with Aimrec, between The Majestic Sitar and The Lyrical Sitar. Released by Aimrec in 2015 (AIMCDIM406).
