About This Album
Sitar Recital presents Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, one of the leading sitarists of the Imdadkhani gharana, with Enayet Hossain on tabla, in a complete performance of Raga Kalawati.
Kalawati is a five-note (pentatonic) night raga with a bright, graceful character. The recital follows the classic concert form: an alap, jor and jhala on solo sitar, then gats in vilambit (slow) and drut (fast) teental with tabla. It ends with a 23-minute gat in Mishra Khammaj, a light and romantic raga.
Budhaditya Mukherjee received his entire training from his father, Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee, a respected doyen of the Imdadkhani gharana, and is widely regarded as one of the finest sitarists of his generation. A model of the classical sitar recital for new and seasoned listeners alike. Released by Aimrec in 2006 (AIMCDIM100).
