Raga Rageshree is a night raga of the Khamaj thaat with a gentle, romantic and serene character. It leaves out Pa, so it moves on six notes, and it uses natural Ni in ascent and flat Ni (komal ni) in descent.
Rageshree is ideal for unhurried exploration, which is why Aimrec’s recordings of it are among the label’s longest: Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya on santoor, Ajit Singh on the rare vichitra veena in a performance of almost an hour, and Shakir Khan on sitar.
