Six Strings

Six Strings presents sitarist Hidayat Khan, with Enayet Hossain on tabla, in two complete ragas for the evening and night.

The first is Raga Jhinjhoti, a lyrical night raga (spelled Jhinjoti on the track list), performed as an alap followed by a gat in vilambit (slow) teental. The second is Raga Gawati, an evening raga, with an alap and a gat in drut (fast) teental. Together they make a classic sitar and tabla album, showing both the meditative and the brilliant sides of the instrument.

Hidayat Khan is the son and disciple of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan and carries the gayaki ang, his father’s singing style of sitar. Enayet Hossain learned tabla from his father, Ustad Hamid Hossain, the founder of Aimrec. Released by Aimrec in 2020 (AIMCDIM427).
