Soulful Duet, Volume 3: Legacy is a sitar and sarangi jugalbandi between Hidayat Khan and Kamal Sabri, with Enayet Hossain on tabla, uniting two great family traditions.
The album opens with Raga Charukeshi, a raga borrowed from South Indian Carnatic music: an alap, jor and jhala, then a gat in teental. It closes with Raga Puriya Kalyan, a raga of sunset. The plucked sitar and the bowed, voice-like sarangi answer each other through each raga.
The title says it all. Hidayat Khan is the son and disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan, and Kamal Sabri is the son of sarangi master Ustad Sabri Khan, the seventh generation of the Senia and Moradabad gharanas. Part of Aimrec’s Soulful Duets series, which pairs the sitar with a different instrument each time. Released by Aimrec in 2020 (AIMCDIM420).
